On December 1st 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama She was arrested because she refused to give up her seat to a white passenger. After she was set free, she began to collaborate with civil right leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. She received awards such as Spingarn Medal and Congressional Gold Medal.
